‘American Idol’ Top 3 Recap: Jessica and Joshua Pick the Right Song, Phillip’s Choice Is Too Easy

After visiting their respective hometown, Jessica Sanchez, Joshua Ledet and Phillip Phillips were back on “American Idol” stage Wednesday night, May 16. These Top 3 finalists would sing three songs: judges’ choice, the contestants’ choice and Jimmy Iovine’s choice, before one of them is sent on Thursday night and the others move on to the finals.

Joshua Pick the Right Song, Phillips Choice Is Too Easy
Joshua was the lucky number one, performing Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind” which was chosen by Randy Jackson. Steven Tyler gushed, “This is another Joshua moment.” Jennifer Lopez also sang praise, “You are such a throwback and I love that about you,” while Randy said, “I hope you can bring your touch to modern times.”
Jennifer chose Mariah Carey’s “My All” for Jessica. Randy said it was the right song for her, while J.Lo admitted it was a hard song, but Jessica did it so beautiful in her own way. Steven chimed in, “When you sing you make people hang on your every note, get used to encores and in a crazy way, you will be the last one standing here.”
Phillip sang “Beggin” by Madcon per Steven’s request. Steven gushed, “I’m hoping that you write your own songs because you could be the new Springsteen.” J.Lo said it was great, while Randy felt he was at the Phil Phillips concert.
Asked by Ryan Seacrest about who won the first round, Randy thought Joshua has a slight edge of winning it. J.Lo disagreed as she thought Phillip won it, with Steven supporting her opinion.
In the second round, footage of the finalists’ hometown visits was played before they sang. “They are really acting like I am Barack Obama,” Joshua quipped as he was welcomed by a bunch of fans in Westlake, Louisiana. Back on “Idol” stage, he sang “Imagine” by John Lennon. All three judges love it, with J.Lo commenting it’s “a pull back moment” for Joshua.
For her hometown visit, Jessica traveled by helicopter to Chula Vista, California where she reprised her rendition of “Dance With My Father” for her dad who is overseas. Later on the live performance show, she sang her own choice “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith. Steven said, “You just took a great song and made it greater, beautiful,” while Randy thought, “It was slow in the beginning, but you delivered.”
Before Phillip sang “Disease”, “Idol” showed footage of him visiting Leesburg, Georgia, during which he returned to the pawn shop. His rendition of the Matchbox 20 song was deemed “just okay” by Randy. J.Lo and Steven agreed, with the former saying, “That was an easy performance for you.”
In Round 3, Joshua sang “No More Drama” by Mary J. Blige. Jimmy predicted Joshua would have another shining moment like he did with “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World”. Randy commented, “At this point it doesn’t matter what you do or what you sing, people should just vote for you.”
Jimmy picked Jackson 5′s “I’ll Be There” for Jessica to show how young she is. J.Lo said Jimmy made a good choice and Jessica “killed it at the end.” Steven said it was “over the top,” but Randy said it was just okay.
Wrapping up the night, Phillip sang “We’ve Got Tonight” by Bob Seger as requested by Jimmy, who explained that the song would address both Phillip’s male and female fans. Randy said Phillip has “a giant moment” with the song, while J.Lo gushed, “There are about a million girls out there that wish you were singing it to them, it was like a lullaby, perfect.”

‘How I Met Your Mother’ Boss Teases Twists and Turns That Are Built Into Barney’s Wedding

The mystery surrounding Barney’s future bride on “How I Met Your Mother” has been unveiled, but fans have not seen how he ends up deciding that
Robin is the one for him. Confirming that the wedding bells will indeed ring for the couple, executive producer Craig Thomas teases that their path to the chapel is not a smooth one.

“There’s going to be twists and turns built into that day,” he told TVLine. For example, viewers won’t see Barney and Robin together immediately after this. “They’re too tangled up in other things,” Thomas reasoned. “We’ll show you how that [new] relationship ends up leading her back to Barney,” he added, promising that Robin’s new love interest will be introduced “right away.”

While gushing that the wedding day “is going to be full of enough other surprises,” he said the show won’t end with Ted meeting the titular mother at the nuptials. “There will be more story after [the wedding day],” he added before mentioning what would be addressed next, “What are Barney and Robin like married? What happens with that marriage?”

Of how Ted meets the mother after he and Victoria ran off together, Thomas said Victoria helps Ted to close “the last couple doors in his mind that he has to close to really be ready to meet the mother.” He further pointed out, “One of [the doors] was Robin.”

Len Goodman admitted he was excited to see the dance, giving a positive review, “I though overall it was terrific.” Bruno Toli said, “It was ace!” Carrie Ann Inaba noticed, “There was one over-rotation on the drop,” but “everything else… was amazing.” The telenovela star got 28 points.

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas danced the quickstep. “In order to make it to the finals, you have to bring your A game and I don’t think you brought it… You brought your A+ game!” so Carrie Ann commented. Bruno praised her “amazing technique,” while Len pointed out “a little foot-fault thing,” but said it was “a fabulous number” overall. The opera singer earned 29 points.

Next, Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd danced the waltz. Bruno thought it was “a fantastic job,” while Len called it “charming.” Carrie Ann said, “It’s so dreamy,” and liked it that the dance was so emotional, but noticed, “There was just a few times when your feet didn’t quite finish the step.” The NFL star got 28 points.

You lived up to every expectation. Your bounce was more like a thrust.” William’s total score was 58.

Katherine and Mark later danced the salsa. Carrie Ann said, “That was just fantastic… I love seeing you push your boundaries. I was so bummed at the ending.” Len and Bruno had nothing but praises, but the Welsh mezzo-soprano only got 27, or two points less than what she got for her first dance. Game of Thrones’ recap: Theon’s betrayal of The Starks reaches new low, Jaime plots his escape

HBO’s hit series proves there are few decent men left (alive) in Westeros
This season on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” even as all of the Seven Kingdoms have been plunged into war by the five would be kings vying for the Iron Throne, it’s been a two horse race for the title of most despicable jerk between King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) and Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen).
Sunday night, Theon took the lead.
Waking up from to find the wilding woman Osha (Natalia Tena) had deserted Winterfell and just bedded him to distract him long enough to engineer Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and Rickon (Art Parkinson’s) escape. Enraged, Theon unleashes his hounds and organizes a manhunt to track down the boys he was once raised alongside — and bring them back dead or alive.
“C’mon Maester, don’t look so grim, it’s all just a game,” Theon hisses to poor Maester Aemon.
On the other side of the Wall, in the frozen tundra well to the North — actually Iceland — Jon Snow (Kit Harington) wakes up with the wilding woman he couldn’t bring himself to kill as his captive. Unfortunately for Snow, though, he also wakes up as a prisoner — to his libido.

“Did you pull a knife on me in the night,” teases Ygritte (Rose Leslie)
“I’m a man of the Night’s Watch,” he says.
“You’re a boy who’s never been with a girl,” she responds.
Now he’s even more desperate to find his fellow Night’s Watch rangers than he was before since he suddenly feels like he’s back in junior high school.
To the south, Snow’s half-sister Arya (Maisie Williams) is fairing slightly better, having managed to dodge certain death by posing as a stone mason’s daughter as she serves as a cupbearer for Lord Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance), the grandfather of King Joffrey, and the evil teenager who ordered her father beheaded.
The more Arya talks to Lord Tywin, however, the more she gives herself away.
“If you’re going to pose as a commoner, you should do it proper,” he says after catching her saying “My Lord” instead of “M’Lord”, a sign of education.
After Arya corrects him (“properly”), Lord Tywin warns her, “You’re too smart for your own good. Has anyone ever told you that?”
“Yes,” she replies.
Meanwhile, Theon’s posse has narrowed their search for Bran and Rickon to a mill with an older couple and their two children.
“The hounds will find the scene again, I’ll beat them until they do,” he says.
