Part goofy bromance, part light-touch mockumentary, engaging indie Beyond The Pole brings some belated, much needed humour to the issue of climate change. Purporting to document the first carbon neutral, organic, vegetarian expedition to the north pole, this engaging comedy is consistently amusing rather than ferociously funny, but it has heart, ensuring an unexpectedly affecting climax.

Inspired by his adventuring great grandfather, Mark is played by Green Wing’s Stephen Mangan at his reliably hubristic best, while Bellamy’s People’s Rhys Thomas is Brian, his unquestioning best friend and puppyish sidekick. Chronicling this misguided polar expedition, sponsored by packets of vegetarian suet, is straight-faced documentary-maker Becky (Helen Baxendale, who also executive produces).

Download Beyond The Pole Movie

Shot in Greenland and Iceland and adapted from a radio series script by Paul Barnhill and Neil Warhurst, director David L. Williams reflects his experience in both comedy and genuine documentary, making plenty of his £1million budget by skewering all the clichés of the form and worthy convictions of his deluded principals.

Support for the pair is from a reliable cast of British sitcom regulars, including Clive Russell as the expedition’s experienced Arctic cameraman, Rosie Cavaliero as Brian’s fretting wife and Mark Benson as Mark’s “second best friend”, manning their radio communication from a poky caravan in an English field. Every character’s unwitting testimony of little glances to camera and unfortunate blurts are perfectly pitched for the reality spoof.

Plagued by his wife and brother’s conspicuous lack of support, Mark’s dreams of fame, which increasingly seem to be about claiming a Guinness World record rather than saving the planet, are further threatened by their discovery of a team of gay Norwegians (Alexander Skarsgaard and Lars Arentz-Hansen), pursuing the same goal with better equipment, greater professionalism and experience. The affable Brian warms to their competitors but the increasingly tightly wound Mark is driven to the edge of insanity and the pair turn on each other in farcical bickering and recrimination. Compounding Brian’s increasing misery, Rosie springs a bombshell on him from back home.

Regardless of the film’s modest budget, the panoramic shots of ice floes afford it an impressive scale and spectacle that make Mark and Brian’s petty squabbles seem all the funnier in relief. Ultimately, the film stands or falls on maintaining interest in their friendship and they meet the challenge, Mangan ratcheting up the rants, the scales falling from Brian’s eyes. So while you may enjoy their misfortune, you genuinely care if they succeed.

Chloe Chloe

Internet Movie Database:

For further details including world release dates, photographs and videos search for Chloe on IMDb.com

The most striking thing about multi award-winning Canadian director Atom Egoyan’s film Chloe is the actress Amanda Seyfried who plays the title character. The transition from teeny bop all singing, all dancing angel girl in Mamma Mia last year to sexy seductress escort girl in this film is shocking and at times makes for uncomfortable viewing (although not as uncomfortable as sitting through Mamma Mia I hasten to add).

But that is the idea and the appeal of this darkly disturbing relationship drama. Chloe is hired by a wealthy doctor, played by a neurotic and emotionally fragile Julianne Moore, to seduce her handsome husband David (Liam Neeson), a professor whom she believes is cheating on her.

Download Chloe Movie

The idea behind the agreement is to see if David takes the bait and then confront him, but Chloe decides to take it a little further and starts describing in graphic and sordid detail to Catherine how her relationship with David is progressing, which surprisingly turns Catherine on as it takes her back to her early days with David when their own relationship was more steamy. But things soon get out of control as Catherine and Chloe also strike up a relationship, and Chloe then seduces another important member of the inner circle.

While sex is clearly an ongoing theme throughout the movie, there is more depth to the story and characters than simply love making. We get to explore the fragility of relationships and the ease with which jealousy and bitterness can easily overpower the importance of trust and caring for one another.

Moore plays the role of a despairing, desperate wife and lover very well, although her familiar over exuberance gets the better of her at times to the point of overacting. And while we feel for her plight in the most part, there are intriguing and clever twists and turns when the tables are turned. Neeson is also very good as the aging lothario, although we don’t get to see his true colours until very late on.

But it is Seyfried as Chloe who steals the show, oozing sexual energy while at the same time revealing alarming ‘Basic Instinct’ tendencies; thus proving that she has a more diverse range to her repertoire than simply playing a bubbly blonde.

The director’s influence is also palpable throughout the movie. The two-time Oscar nominee proves he is no novice at making dark dramas with his intelligent manipulation of the characters and dark settings, which set the mood perfectly for the tense dramatic scenes.

The only obvious gripe I have with the film is the ending, which is staged as a happy one, but with obvious ambiguity as to the outcome of everyone’s circumstances. That in itself is fine, but the small hints that everything is not as it seems are a little unusual and not really in keeping with the characters’ behavior until that point. You’ll see what I mean when you watch the film next year.

Scouting Book For Boys Scouting Book For Boys Scouting Book For Boys

For further details including world release dates, photographs and videos search
Bafta award winning shorts director Tom Harper makes his feature debut with this coming of age drama, starring rising British talent Thomas Turgoose of This Is England fame in the central role as a troubled teen in love with his best friend.

The film begins with David (Turgoose) and Emily (Holly Grainger) indulging in japes and pranks in the soulless trailer park where they live in Norfolk, climbing roof tops, chasing sheep, frolicking in the pool, appearing not to have a care in the world. But there set up soon changes when Emily’s alcoholic mum, Sharon, decides her daughter should move away and live with her father. To prevent this happening David decides to hide Emily away in a cave by the sea without telling anyone, just their little secret.

But the town soon fears that Emily has been kidnapped and a massive investigation and hunt for her ensues resulting in David taking drastic and, at one point, violent measures to keep her to himself and not reveal her whereabouts.

With strong backing from Film 4, Celador and Screen East, and a screenplay from Jack Thorne, writer of Shameless and Skins, Harper’s first stab at feature film making is an impressive, professional one, taking what could have been a humdrum teen drama into darker waters.

The problem is that while Turgoose and Grainger provide solid central performances throughout, the secondary characters, including Sharon (who looks and behaves uncannily like Amy Whinehouse) and Kertzer, the police officer in charge of the investigation, appear almost cartoonish in appearance and mannerisms, which is fine for the lighter tone of the early part of the film, but feels out of place in the more sinister latter stages.

Download The Scouting Book For Boys Movie

Furthermore, the accents of the characters are very strong, making it hard to understand everything they say, especially Turgoose who mumbles incoherently at times, which might put off some moviegoers, particularly in the US.

Overall, The Scouting Book For Boys is certainly better than a TV movie, but not quite in the same league as other quality British youth dramas, such as Shane Meadow’s This Is England or going back 30 years, Franc Roddam’s Quadrophenia.

His pampered reality is thrown into stark relief when he contracts a life-threatening type of leukaemia. To ease his way through his last months he hires a gofer (Seth Rogen) and takes a long, hard look at what he’s become. Director Judd Apatow’s third outing neatly balances out-and-out laughs with a quieter contemplation of spiritual frailty.

Channel Surfing: Production on "Two and a Half Men" Shut Down as Sheen Enters Rehab, "Torchwood," David Anders Finds "Vampire Diaries," and More

Welcome to your Wednesday morning television briefing.

Production on CBS comedy Two and a Half Men has been temporarily shut down after series lead Charlie Sheen checked himself into a rehab clinic. His decision comes on the heels of some serious legal troubles for the star of the Warner Bros. Television-produced series after his arrest in December and a domestic violence charge against his wife Brooke Mueller. (Variety, New York Times)

CBS' Nina Tassler, Warner Bros. Television's Peter Roth, and executive producer Chuck Lorre issued the following joint statement: "CBS, Warner Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre support Charlie Sheen in his decision today to begin voluntary in-patient care at a treatment center. We wish him nothing but the best as he deals with this personal matter. Production on Two and a Half Men will be temporarily suspended." [Editor: it's a bit of an about-face for Lorre, who had cracked a joke at the TCA Winter Press Tour when asked about Sheen's problems.] (via press release)

The Wrap's Josef Adalian takes a look at what's next for Two and a Half Men with Sheen in rehab. He states that CBS is in good shape, with three eps in the can, and plenty of time to produce installments for May sweeps, should Sheen become available. If he's not, Adalian asserts that CBS could move on without Sheen. "There's a rich history of TV sitcoms moving on -- both short-term and long-term -- without their key stars." (The Wrap's TVMoJoe)

Looks like John Barrowman knows just as much about the future of Torchwood as we do. "I don't know if we're gonna be filming Torchwood," said Barrowman when asked whether his upcoming stint on ABC's Desperate Housewives would clash with duties on BBC drama Torchwood. "I haven't heard anything. I haven't heard anything about what you're talking about! I only know that I would - at the drop of a hat - love to do Torchwood again. I would love to do more than five episodes. But if we're only going to do five episodes, I'm happy with that... I have no information on the future of Torchwood - I'm like everybody else at the moment! But I would love to do another Torchwood." (Digital Spy)

Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is reporting that David Anders (24, Heroes) has been cast in a multiple-episode story arc on the CW's Vampire Diaries, where he will play Jonathan Gilbert, Elena and Jeremy's uncle who travels to Mystic Falls "to cause some trouble," according to Vampire Diaries insider. Anders' first appearance is set to air in April. (Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files)

TV Review: 24 - SEASON EIGHT - '12 a.m. to 1 a.m.'

The series continues to try and get its feet after suffering a bitter and boring Russian winter
Grade:
B
Stars: Kiefer Sutherland, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Anne Wersching, Freddie Prinze Jr., Cherry Jones,

In the annals of 24, Hastings (Mykelti Williamson) is likely one of the worst directors of the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU).
Yeah, I realize that the season is still ongoing and we have a slew of episodes left, but up until this point he’s proved himself to be an irresponsible, slimy, untrusting moron that not only doesn’t have a nose for the truth or justice but is willing to be played as a pawn to whoever might feel necessary to play him.
Bill Buchanan – hands down the best CTU director – he is not.
And once again in “12 a.m. to 1 a.m.” he was used to frame Renee (Annie Wersching) as the fall girl for the debacle involving the Russians. Instead of just taking the bullet himself, he let President Taylor’s (Cherry Jones) staff member Weiss manipulate him into the deal even if it went against everything he knew was just. Then when Ortiz (Freddie Prinze Jr.) goes off to get his girlfriend Dana (Katee Sackoff) in the most ludicrous storyline (more on that later), he was more than willing to send some fresh-off-the-boat kid to lead a squad in hostile territory. This doesn’t even go into the fact he just now realized that Dana was off doing extra circular activities after she’s been away, well, most of the freaking night?

Speaking of the Russians, thank the Gods we are past the Russian winter that has locked down 24 for the past few episodes. It put a monkey wrench in what was up until that point a pretty decent season of the show. Now, it seems to be fighting to get back on track and quickly. Jon Cassar why did you have to leave?
Anyway, with the Russians behind us and the poorly used Josef (David Anders) supposedly dead after the Arab buyers, of course, set him up and stole the uranium fuel rods, the search continues for said fuel rods before they can either be transported out of the country or worse used on our soil.
And, yes, much like I predicted last week, the goal of Farhad Hassan (Akbar Kurtha), brother of president Omar Hassan (Anil Kapoor), to take over his country using the rods went out the window as soon as they got their grubby hands on the rods. Instead, they plan on attacking the U.S. in order to make us fear them and show their strength.
This doesn’t sit well with Farhad because that’s not what he signed up and he fears the reprisal that the U.S. will bring on his country. So he does the most logical thing, calls CTU and asks for help. Huh? This is the dude they have been tracking and he now calls them? Seems like he’d call dear old brother first or someone else from his own country. But whatever, it works as it gives CTU a new goal.
Luckily, Jack (Kiefer Sutherland), after attacking CTU agents to rescue Renee from prosecution, cons Hastings into volunteering to bring Farhad back in exchange for Renee’s freedom.
Meanwhile, the dumbest storyline in the history of 24 continues as Dana follows her ex and his psycho friend in order to get out of her predicament by killing them. That makes sense. No wait, no it doesn't. Instead of talking to your friends inside a government justice organization, resort to murder instead.
However, before she can do this, Ortiz gets there and threatens them to leave her alone. This doesn’t sit well with the psycho who knifes Dana’s ex and tries to kill Ortiz. Doesn’t work and Ortiz turns the tables. Of course, Dana had to confess all she had done before this happens. Had she done this right away then none of this would have happened and you knew she would have to tell someone at some point. Dumb and dumber. Who wrote this subplot? It just keeps getting worse. Plus, she wore heels to a murder? Who does that?

Adrian Pasdar has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge.

The "Heroes" actor entered the plea through his attorney and did not attend a court hearing on Wednesday. His case is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on March 15.

Pasdar was arrested Jan. 27 after authorities say they spotted the 44-year-old swerving and speeding on a Los Angeles freeway.

Pasdar plays Nathan Petrelli on the NBC show "Heroes." He is married to Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines.

Pasdar's attorney, Michael Nasatir, says he has no comment on the case.

Damages and The Day the Immigrants Left

In Damages, Glenn Close gives a manipulative masterclass in just about everything, says Lucy Mangan

Damages

'Quite breathtaking' . . . Glenn Close in Damages

Watching Glenn Close is like taking a cold plunge bath: quite breathtaking and wholly invigorating. Last night she was back as the magnificent, manipulative lawyer Patty Hewes in the new series of Damages (BBC1), intent on bringing down a Madoff-like character called Lewis Tobin and – if the last two series are anything to go by – anyone else who gets in her way.

As ever, the plot has been given a quick whizz in the narrative Moulinex. The story switches from just after her success at bringing down the Enron-type conspiracy of the last series to six months later, when she is the apparent victim of a hit-and-run car accident caused by a vehicle registered to her associate Tom Shayes, who, it is revealed in the final scenes Рlook away now if you are saving this up Рis now a dead body in a dumpster. Found nearby is the Chanel bag Patty gave her former prot̩g̩e/patsy/nemesis Ellen six months earlier Рie back in the present. Add in a further dose of flashbacks to previous events within the Tobin clan, and you have every excuse for a stiff drink to see you through.

In the present, Ellen now has what I'm sure she hopes will be a relatively straightforward job in the DA's office. They are intent on building the criminal case against Tobin while Patty tries to discover where the $70bn of Ponzi proceeds went. When his son seems ready to crack under media pressure, Patty hires one of his victims to provoke him into a public assault, thereby widening the cracks enough for secrets to spill out. Joe should think himself lucky. When Patty wanted to build animosity to Ted Danson in series one, she had someone's pet dog killed. I hope no one in the Tobin family is planning on leaving any babies unattended.

It is too early to tell whether Damages has completely returned to form – even the parlous second series began well – but the signs look good and Close in particular looks fabulous. A walking masterclass in – well, everything.

A favourite argument of those who oppose immigration is that migrant workers "take our jobs". The Day the Immigrants Left, presented by Evan Davies (BBC1), went to Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, a town with thousands of eastern European workers and 2,000 local people on the dole. The producers arranged for 12 of the latter to replace 12 of the former for two days to see if they were as ready, willing and able to work at anything as a) they claimed and b) their immigrant counterparts were.

Half turned up late or not at all. "I won't do a job I don't find very interesting," said 26-year-old Lewis, who has been unemployed for five years and was supposed to go to a potato factory. "I do feel a little bit pressurised to get a job, but it's not to the point that I can just take any job that comes." Those that did eventually arrive were a woeful sight. Paul and Terry insisted that the potato-sorting machines had been set deliberately fast (they had actually been slowed down to accommodate the two trainees), one of many examples from the British workers of a persistent and fatally crippling sense of grievance and entitlement.

Carpenter Dean reacted with fury to his Lithuanian supervisor's instructions to use screws rather than a nail gun, which would take longer but make his plasterboard work stand firm. Ashley quit his restaurant job halfway through his first lunchtime on his first day and then sat down happily to eat the meal offered by his saintly employer Ali.

You looked in vain for a glimmer of shame or embarrassment in any of them, but came up emptyhanded. You could try to tell yourself that their attitudes masked the insecurities that come with unemployment, and at times Davies bent over backwards to put a better gloss on their behaviour: at one point, he tried to suggest to the farm owner that availability of foreign labour had made employers lazy when it came to "coaxing and motivating" local workers. But it was hard not to suspect, as you watched the infuriating dozen, stunned by the prospect of physical labour, resentful of any advice, childish and utterly unmotivated by the presence of a television crew or the knowledge that even their greatest perceived sufferings would be over within 48 hours, that the natives might just be revolting.

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on 'NCIS,' 'Bones,' 'Lost,' 'Supernatural,' 'Grey's,' and more!

Question: Happy belated birthday! My gift to you comes in the form of a question: Got any NCIS scoop? —Joel
Ausiello: You shouldn’t have. No. Really. You shouldn’t have. But since you did, I can exclusively confirm that Rena Sofer’s feisty legal eagle — who returns in Tuesday’s episode — will be back for multiple episodes in May and “set in motion a chain of events that forces Gibbs (Mark Harmon) to make a life-changing decision,” reveals exec producer Shane Brennan. And not just any life-changing decision, either. One, he says “that will impact every member of his team.”

Question: I’ll send you some birthday cake if you give me some Supernatural scoop about the 100th episode. —Annie
Ausiello: In the milestone episode, airing April 15,”a very important character will sacrifice themselves in a suicide mission,” reveals exec producer Sera Gamble. “We definitely kept in mind that this was [an important] episode. We wanted to deliver something with real scope; it’s about the Archangel Michael. Crises will come to a head for Dean and Castiel. And you’ll see characters you never thought you’d see again.” Here’s the pan I want you to use for my cake.

Question: Can you tell me if any of the following Losties will get a centric episode by season’s end: Miles, Ilana, Lapidus, or Claire? —Stephen
Ausiello: No, no, no, and no. At least as of 6.15. And my guess is the final hours won’t center on anyone. The good news: You’ll see a lot of those four in other people’s sideways arcs.

Question: Please tell me that you have at least one little morsel of a Bones spoiler. —Carrie
Ausiello: An April episode set at a rock & roll fantasy camp will feature enough testicle talk to make my high school sex-ed teacher Mrs. Sturke blush. It’ll also find Booth and Brennan “reprising a song they have sung on the show before,” hints exec producer Stephen Nathan. Guesses? Head to the comments!

Questions: Could I please, pretty please, have something about Angela and Hodgins on Bones? Please, with a cherry on top? —Dew
Ausiello: Exec producer Stephen Nathan says look for the Hodgins/Angela/Wendall imbroglio to get “stirred up” in coming weeks. “Obviously it’s a very complicated triangle, because Hodgins and Wendall are very good friends,” he adds. “And now Angela is sort of in the middle of this situation, and re-examining her relationship with Hodgins.”

Question: Now that we know Booth is getting a little action on Bones, what about Brennan? —Sydney
Ausiello: I hear there’s a second date with Hacker in her future.

Question: Anything on Damages? — Cyndi
Ausiello: Meta overload alert! Producers are currently on the hunt for an actress to play the role of an actress who ends up getting cast as Patty Hewes in a movie about the Frobisher case. (Got that?) Who do you think should play Glenn Close playing Patty Hewes? Head to the comments!

Question: Please give me some reason to hope that Big Love is going to get back on track soon. Last season it was one of the best shows on TV. This season has been a mess. —George
Ausiello: My love for Big has grown smaller, too. Save for a few isolated scenes and moments, this season has been a massive disappointment. The pacing is all out of whack, the plot twists feel contrived (Mexico standoff?), and some of my favorite characters are almost unrecognizable (please bring back the real Margene!). I’m not giving up on the show though. Hopefully, the producers will hear our pleas and do a course correction next season. In the meantime, there are still two episodes from this season left, including a finale that I’m told will feature a big betrayal within Bill’s campaign. Also, one of the wives will try out a new look.

Question: I heard you got the next four episodes of Chuck. Can you give us some scoop, pretty please? —Laura
Ausiello: The first episode back on Monday will feature…

A) a revealing look at Brandon Routh’s ripped upper body
B) a major revelation about Sarah
C) a nasty tooth extraction
D) massive amounts of Chuck-Hannah kissing
E) a break-up
F) three significant deaths
G) all of the above except F
H) none of the above

Place your best guesses in the comments section. And check out the kick-ass new trailer for major clues!

Question: I had a fire in my home the other night. Now I’m stuck in a hotel with a crappy, 25-year-old, 19-inch TV for seven weeks! I beg of you, give me some Chuck teases to cheer me up. —Scott
Ausiello: Wow, sucks to be you. This should get you out of your funk: The March 8, Zach Levi-directed episode is a game-changer in the truest sense of the word. And plot twists aside, it’s just an all-around great episode of Chuck. I watched it over the weekend on my state-of-the-art, 197-inch flat-screen TV in the comfort of my own home and was in heaven. Hope that helped!

Question: Zach Levi tweeted a picture of Nathan Fillion on the set of Chuck! Be still my Chuck/Firefly lovin’ heart! Please tell me you’ve got any scoop about the goings-on behind this picture! —Kathleen
Ausiello: If you’re asking me whether Nathan is guest-starring on Chuck, the answer is no. Faux rumor has it he was in the running to play the sexy and mysterious new cashier at Buy More, but the role ended up going to this guy.

Question: Any scoop on pilot season? —Sandy
Ausiello: I just heard that Amy Sherman-Palladino will also be sitting in the director’s chair for the pilot of The Wyoming Project, her new Little House-esque project for The CW.

Question: Got any deets on the return of Sheldon’s archenemy, Evil Wil Wheaton, to The Big Bang Theory? —Jason
Ausiello: This time around, the foes will face off in a bowling alley. “Sheldon sees this as an opportunity to settle the score and right the injustice that was created when Wil beat him at the fantasy card game,” explains exec producer Bill Prady of the April 12 episode, which finds the Big Bang crew competing against the gang from the comic book store. This raises the question: How good a bowler is Sheldon? “We’re saying that he is a good bowler,” says Prady. “We’re saying he bowled as a child. He was on a championship team in the East Texas Youth Camp in the 7 to 13 year-old division.” Prady cryptically adds that “Wil’s competitive desire to win at all costs will [inflict] collateral damage on other characters.” Hmm… I wonder if this has anything to do with the looming turmoil in Penny and Leonard’s relationship.

Question: I’m a diehard fan of 24. While the new sets and the slick technology are cool, there seems to be a noticeable lack of action this season (except for episode 8). When will things start to turn around? —Aditya
Ausiello: A wholly unbiased source at the show tells me that Monday’s episode is “classic 24” in that it both crackles with suspense and features a lot of Jack and Chloe. It also boasts what the insider calls a “heart-wrenching performance” from Mare Winningham as the mother of a young terrorist recruit and lots of Jack and Chloe. Anything about that appeal to you, Aditya?

Question: The Psych finale is in a few weeks and some of us are scrambling for some new spoilers! Can you give us anything on how maybe Henry or Abigail play into the finale? Or anything new in general. —Jenna
Ausiello: As you know, the finale will revisit the Yin Yang killer story from Season 3 and feature the return of Yang herself (a.k.a. Ally Sheedy). But what you may not know is that it’ll also include a surprise twist that no one — I repeat, no one — will see coming.

Question: Is Lisa Edelstein leaving House? I read about that and I’m sad. —Camila
Ausiello: I assume you’re referring to comments Edelstein made to Jewish Exponent that seemed to suggest she was planning to move on next season when her contract expired. Well, relax. Edelstein’s not going anywhere. “The question behind that quote was regarding life after House,” she clarifies. ”I’m not planning on leaving, I just don’t count my chickens before they hatch. Since I’m only owned for seven years at the moment, seven is what I said. However, if they want me for more I’m raring to go. I love my job!” Glad that’s settled.

Question: Where will Wilson’s ex-wife (Cynthia Watros) be living when she shows up on House? I can’t imagine she’ll be shacking up with House and Wilson.—Dana
Ausiello: “She hasn’t moved in, but she’s around a lot,” says Robert Sean Leonard, who reveals that Watros’ meatiest scenes are actually with Hugh Laurie. “I have the least to do in a way [of the three of us]. The whole dynamic of this is: the first wife returns, House hates her, and wants to start spying. I’m kind of the guy in the middle trying to keep peace. But it’s a lot of fun to watch Cynthia and Hugh tear into their scenes.”

Question: What’s going on with Katherine Heigl? Is she ever going to be returning to Grey’s Anatomy? —Hannah
Ausiello: Heigl’s due back on the Grey’s set on Monday, so it looks like Izzie will be in this season’s final five episodes. What happens after that is anyone’s guess. In other Grey’s news, I just learned that a second Mercy Wester will not be returning next season. Have you figured out who the other one is yet?

Question: Crazed fans like myself desperately need an update on Smallville’s renewal. How’s it looking? Any idea what the hold-up is? —Ryan
Ausiello: It’s looking really, really good. And the hold-up is due to boring stuff like contracts and money.

Question: Any Ugly Betty scoop? —Matt
Ausiello: Adam Rodriguez confirmed the worst kept secret in TV land: Hilda and Bobby are getting hitched in the series finale. “Poor Hilda gets her happy ending,” he says with a laugh. “She so deserves it. She’s a good mom, a good daughter, a great person, and you really never get to see her win. She’s always faced with these obstacles and these bad guys that come in and out of her life who never work out. And finally she meets somebody who’s willing to love her the way she deserves to be loved. So to end the show with her getting married and having that Cinderella moment for her is really great. I’m really excited about that. And for the character of Bobby, it’s a great way to show that this guy has really come full circle. He’s willing to get married and be a real grown-up finally. They’re a great couple I think the audience is going to be happy to see them get married and solidify that relationship.”

Question: I am dying here without Vampire Diaries! Please give us some scoop on the Damon-Elena relationship because I am loving it! —Ash
Ausiello: Then prepare to love this season’s final strong of episodes, which exec producer Julie Plec tells me will be heavily focused on the pair. “We’ll see Damon start to look at Elena as more than just his brother’s girlfriend or the doppelganger to the love of his life,” she reveals. “He’ll start to love and understand her as a human being, which is ironic because Damon could typically give a s–t about anything involving humanity. It’s some good stuff.”

'American Idol's' Kevin Covais: Casey James, Didi Benami early favorites

kevin-covais-didi-benami-casey-james-american-idol-320.jpg[Kevin Covais was a Top 12 finalist on "American Idol" Season 5 and is the first guest in Zap2it's Season 9 former Idol guest blogger series.]

The first two live performance shows of "American Idol" Season 9 have come and gone, and it was an entertaining couple of nights to say the least.

Tuesday (Feb. 23) night saw the Top 12 females hit the stage, and the results were mixed. There were decent performances, several that left something to be desired, and a few standouts that came flying out of the gate with great vocals. My biggest fan Simon Cowell has gone on record as saying that this is the girls' year, and after watching both shows, I have to agree and give the edge to the girls after Week One.
Watch Full Episodes Of American Idol Click Here
Unfortunately for the guys, with the exception of a few very impressive performances, Wednesday night's theme seemed to be picking either the wrong song, arrangement, or key. Granted, lets keep in mind that this is the very first time these men and women are performing live.

As cheesy as it sounds, everyone who gets out there and gives it there all the first time out needs to be commended. I know I was about as nervous as possible the first time I took the Idol stage. And I'm sure it showed. And I'm sure some of you readers who were Season 5 fans might agree.

But enough about the past! Let's begin with Tuesday night's standout performances from some of the ladies.

I was thoroughly impressed with Siobhan Magnus. She chose Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" and I thought she knocked it out. There are a number of extremely unique female performers this year, and Siobhan definitely possesses that distinct quality. Combine that with her beautiful vocals, and I think she should be around for a while.

Another standout for me was Katelyn Epperly. Performing "Oh Darling", she delivered a soulful vocal that had a signature throwback feel to it.

But perhaps my favorite performance was that of Didi Benami, who performed Ingrid Michaelson's "The Way I Am". She delivered with a seamless, pitch perfect performance, and even added her own twist at times.

The runaway winner of the men's night has to female favorite Casey James. Singing the undeniably catchy song "Heaven", James delivered the most solid, sincere performance of the night. Expect James to be around for a long time.

Two other guys I really liked are Michael Lynche and Lee Dewyze. The two performed "This Love" and "Chasing Cars" respectively, and both are consistent and extremely passionate performers. These are two guys I am really pulling for, and I think they are both going to stick around a while. Or at least I hope.

While there was a lot of good to take from the first two live performance nights, Thursday night's eliminations means two guys and two girls must go.

It is incredibly difficult to determine who should go after just one performance, but for the girls, I fear Lacey Brown and Haeley Vaughn are in trouble. Lacey just couldn't seem to keep her timing on "Landslide", and Haeley was all over the place vocally with "I Wanna Hold Your Hand."

For the fellas, I think there is a strong possibility we could see Tim Urban and Alex Lambert headed home. Urban, who performed "Apologize" just didn't have enough vocal strength. Alex, who actually has quite a bit of potential, just looked very uncomfortable while performing "Wonderful World."

Looking forward to Thursday night's results!

When 'Gossip Girl' is away, the stars will play

gossip-girl-season-3-cast-p.jpgThe wait is almost over! Monday, Mar. 8 will mark the end of the three-month hiatus (doesn't it seem like so much longer?) for "Gossip Girl."

Well, maybe S and B have been MIA, but that doesn't mean Blake and Leighton (we shall call them B and L) haven't been at play. If you want the scoop on what your fave "GG" characters' real-life counterparts have been up to over the long break, you've come to the right place. We've dug up the gossip on the lives of Manhattan's ... er, Hollywood's ... elite.

Hope you kids behaved during your time off, because you're about to get exposed. You know you love me. XoXo, Zap2it Girl

Blake Lively and Penn Badgley:
On Feb. 7, "GG's" blonde bombshell and celebutab favorite was spotted sunbathing in Miami on Super Bowl weekend with co-star, Chace Crawford. Where's your real-life beau, B? We hear that Penn was supposedly there too (word is you two are still quite the happy couple!), but perhaps he wasn't feeling bathing suit-ready quite yet? Hope you're feeling camera-ready these days, Penn ... Mar. 8 is right around the corner. Tick, tock ... .

leighton-meester-robin-thic.jpgLeighton Meester:
On "GG" you might dress prim and proper, L, but we know your real-life style is a bit more glam rock. You were spotted rocking out with Robin Thicke on stage during his album release party for "Sex Therapy" at NYC's Butter on Dec. 15. Hope you're ready to trade those rocker leopard print boots in for black Mary-Jane pumps soon.

Jessica Szohr and Ed Westwick:
There were rumblings that you two had gone splitsville, but you did your best to put those oh-so-false rumors to rest recently, didn't ya? According to The New York Post, you guys got hot and heavy in one of the back cabanas at Maxim's Super Bowl party on Feb. 7. Better cool it off on camera, love birds ...your "GG" characters are far from Romeo and Juliet.

Chace-at-NYC-fashion-week-4.jpgChace Crawford:
People mag named you "Summer's Hottest Bachelor" last year, but that didn't seem to do much for your love life, Chace. Instead of wining and dining someone on Valentine's Day this year, you warmed the bench with several other Hollywood hotties (Jared Leto, Ryan Phillippe and Kellan Lutz, to name a few!) at Calvin Klein's NY Fashion Week presentation. Maybe you're not lucky in love in real-life these days -- but don't fret, bachelor boy. We're pretty sure "GG" has some juicy on-screen romances in the works for Nate.

Taylor Momsen:
No official word on if you're dating someone these days, but we do know you think "Love Rocks." You were spotted taking a little time away from your own rock band, The Pretty Reckless, to help Victoria's Secret launch their newest scent collection, Love Rocks, on Jan. 14. As for your on-screen love life, we know Little J has her eye on bad boy Damien, but will this turn into something more?

Not enough? Check out some more pics of how the "Gossip Girl" kids spend their time when they're not at work.

Now that we've whet your appetite for Season 3, make sure to check back starting Mar. 8 and sink your teeth into juicy weekly recaps of these celebs' fictional and oh-so-scandalous Upper Eastside lives.

The ads for both films are generous in sharing a lot of fresh footage, but fail to explain the storyline of the movies.

Another snippet for "Robin Hood" has been aired during Super Bowl XLIV. After the first ad for the film was unveiled by Yahoo! Movies on Thursday, February 4, the second TV spot for the film has come out with new footage which exposes the battle that is faced by the lead actor.

Additionally, "The Back-Up Plan" has also shared some never-before-seen scenes by debuting a Super Bowl spot. This snippet follows a couple who has a strange experience as they witness a woman delivering her baby in a pool.

"Robin Hood" centers its story on Sir Robin Hood of Locksley who tries to free his home village from tyranny and corruption in England. Starring as the titular character is Russell Crowe, with "Gladiator" Ridley Scott serving behind the lens for the upcoming movie, which eyes May 14 release date in the U.S.

"The Back-Up Plan", in the meantime, will see Zoe and Stan whose new relationship faces a real test as the leading lady has been pregnant since they start dating. Playing the couple are Jennifer Lopez and Alex O'Loughlin, while Alan Poul takes the helming duty. This movie will open wide in theaters across the U.S. on April 16.
