Dr. Patrick Drake is ditching rehab for some fun in the sun on 90210.

General Hospital vet Jason Thompson has booked a guest spot in the CW series’ fifth season, TVLine has learned.

He’ll appear in Episode 3 as a detective named Eugene Thompsen whose case centers on something major — and top secret! — that goes down at the start of the season.

Tristan Wilds to Skip Four Episodes of ’90210′ Due to Illness

Tristan Wilds is taking a break from “90210” due to an unspecified illness. While it’s unclear how serious his condition is, it is reported that the Dixon Wilson depicter on The CW’s teen drama will skip around four episodes of the show.

If Wilds is indeed taking a leave from four upcoming installments, Dixon will not show up until the series’ season 4 finale. On how Dixon’s absence will be addressed in the storyline, E! Online reports that his character will be seen going on tour and leaving the town for a while.

News of Wilds taking a hiatus from “90210″ came less than a week after Alex O’Loughlin announced that he’s taking a break from “Hawaii Five-0″ to seek treatment for prescription medication. He reportedly will miss the filming of at least one episode.

“Alex is taking a short break from ‘Hawaii Five-0′ to receive supervised treatment for prescription pain medication due to a recent shoulder injury,” so a representative for the Steve McGarrett of the CBS police drama show stated. “We respect and support Alex’s decision. Everyone at CBS Television Studios and Hawaii Five-0 wishes him well and we look forward to his return.”

Annie (Shenae Grimes) decides to skip the party so she can take care of Liam (Matt Lanter), which leads to the two of them rekindling their old romance in Dixon’s (Tristan Wilds) bed. Ivy’s (Gillian Zinser) reconciliation with her father doesn’t go quite as she planned. Teddy (Trevor Donovan) and Ian (Kyle Riabko) discuss their feelings and decide to keep their relationship quiet for the time being, unaware that Dixon saw them share a kiss. 90210 Review: Falling Through Plot Holes...

Look, 90210, I've been critical of this boring season for awhile now, but I was willing to give you a pass on the Teddy storyline.

I found it disappointing and simply lame that such a major development was spoiled by producers over the summer, but, hey, at least I've been giving the series credit for slow-playing this character's self-realization and dealing with such a pressing topic in a respectful fashion.

Then, you air an episode such as "They're Playing Her Song" and give viewers such a glaring plot hole that I can't help but wonder what the writers are doing over there. The plot hole in question: If Teddy forgot his wallet, how did he get into the gay bar?!? I know Trevor Donovan is like 59 in real life, but he is portraying a 17-year old, right?

This will sound like nit-picking, I know. And I'm aware it's not a major detail in the overall story - but it is symbolic of just how lazy 90210 can often be. There are many ways in which the show could have had Teddy require Ian's help... so why choose something that makes so little sense? It's insulting to viewers.

Elsewhere, I can give a positive review to everything involving Annie and Charlie this week. I was ready to rail against the latter character for being so underdeveloped and the series forgetting all about his and Liam's back-scar storyline.

But it brought it back in a realistic way this week, as it makes perfect sense that Annie would feel pressure to "lock in" a college man, and it was also a nice moment for the two to share once she came clean and then he did the same. Important message, readers: sometimes, there are ways to get close to someone with your clothes on!

As for Navid? Weak! If the show wanted to really take a big step and give us some gravity, it would have had Mr. Shirazi kill himself. This truly would have been an unexpected jolt, something that would affect Navid to his core.

Instead, it half-assed the storyline and gave us the unbelievable (in a bad sense) notion that Navid's father would up and leave the country, just a day or two after a guidance counselor apparently spoke to authorities. Talk about a sudden reaction to the baby steps of an investigation.

Finally, we get to Debbie and Ryan. I'm all for this pairing. Why not, right? The two characters do have a lot in common these days... if you entirely forget the events from last week, that is. After all, wasn't Ryan the one totally in control of Jack and seemingly knowledgeable about babies?

Fast forward an episode and suddenly he can't tell if his son needs his diaper changed?!? I understand that Jen leaving would result in a bit of panic, but the show took it to an extreme and is now painting this previously reliable father into a total buffoon. Just poor pacing and inconsistent character development.

Annie and Liam test out the waters with his new boat, where they share their darkest secrets. Little do they know that someone is nearby and decides to share an explosive flame of gasoline with Liam’s boat. Liam finally tells Naomi their relationship isn’t working, leaving her more alone than ever. After a late-night dance, Naomi turns to someone for help, but he ultimately helps himself to her.

Adrianna is offered the opportunity of a lifetime but is torn about the direction to take after Navid confesses his true feelings for her. Teddy discovers that Spence tried to bribe Silver and takes it upon himself to seek revenge in a most confrontational way. Ryan is delivered some mind-blowing news about his past with Jen when a mysterious package arrives on his doorstep, causing him to head down a disasterous path. Dixon and Ivy’s summer vacation plans in Australia comes to a screeching halt when he confesses to kissing Silver. Harry and Debbie face a major hurdle in their marriage when she learns the truth that he has been hiding in order to protect Dixon.

CW casting moves: 'Gossip Girl's Joanna Garcia to 'HIMYM'; Kelly Lynch joins '90210'

JoAnna Garcia, fresh off an appearance on "Gossip Girl," will stick around New York City for a while. "The L Word's" Kelly Lynch, meanwhile, will head to Beverly Hills.

Garcia, former star of The CW's "Privileged," will guest on CBS' "How I Met Your Mother." Hooray for corporate synergy!

The actress will play a woman Ted (Josh Radnor) has lusted after since college. When said woman suddenly becomes single, Ted finds he has a window of opportunity to woo her before the next guy comes along.

The episode will air Dec. 7.

-- Lynch, meanwhile, will move to "90210." She'll play an older woman who seduces Ryan Eggold's Ryan Matthews. Complications arise, of course, when Matthews discovers Lynch's character is the mother of one of his students.

The episode is scheduled to air in January 2010.
