Adam Sandler plays a stand-up comic-turned-comedy actor whose mega bucks success has come at a personal price – a vacuous world of hangers-on and the knowledge that his superstar lifestyle has cost him the love of his life. His pampered reality is thrown into stark relief when he contracts a life-threatening type of leukaemia. To ease his way through his last months he hires a gofer (Seth Rogen) and takes a long, hard look at what he’s become. Director Judd Apatow’s third outing neatly balances out-and-out laughs with a quieter contemplation of spiritual frailty.
